Monsters Storytime
In this collection you will find the following:
Books: Love Monster and the Scary Something, by Rachel Bright, Ten Furry Monsters, by Stephanie Calmenson, Romping Monsters, Stomping Monsters, by Jane Yolen, Leonardo, the Terrible Monster, by Mo Willems, and Even Monsters Need Haircuts, by Matthew McElliott.
Paper copy of various monster-related stretches, rhymes, fingerplays, and other activities
Cardstock pages with the Monster Matching Game on them.
The only other thing you will need for this storytime is scissors.
The books should all be suitable for children ages 3 – 5. You may read them all, or only one or two. You can read them over a series of days, or do your own Storytime program and read them all at once. It’s entirely up to you and your schedule, as well as listeners’ interests.
I usually structure this storytime the following way:
Read Love Monster and the Scary Something
Demonstrate the “Five Little Monsters” fingerplay
Read Ten Furry Monsters
Do the “Monster, Monster” activity
Read Even Monsters Need Haircuts
Do the “If You Ever See a Monster” and “Monster Pokey” activities
Read another book and/or do the craft
You may substitute any of the other books for the ones listed. If you are participating in our Summer Reading Program online, visit our website at YHPLny11.readsquared.com once you have completed the storytime. When you have finished with the storytime kit, please place all the books back in the bag. You are welcome to keep everything else if you wish. (We will restock the bag for the next borrower.)
