Summer Reading Program 2010

This year’s summer reading program runs from late June through mid August.  YHPL will host a variety of free programs.  Kids can keep track of their reading and earn prizes!  Reading logs should be turned in by August 13.  Some programs require registration.  To register stop by the library or call (607) 797-4816.

Preschool Programs

Storytimes – Mondays, June 28 – August 9 (except July 5). 6:30 PM. Children ages 3 1/2 to 5 and caregivers are invited to join us for programs that will include books, rhymes, crafts, and more.  No registration required

School Age Programs

Mer-People Program – Tuesday, July 13, 1:00 PM.   Ages 5-10.  Mermaids and mermen can swim on over to make shell crafts, play “undersea” games and try out some mer-snacks.  Registration required.

Pirate School: Thursdays, July 8 – August 12, 1:00 PM.  Listen to books on pirates, make a different craft each week, and “graduate” with a treasure hunt in the library. Registration required.

Shark Day! Wednesday, July 21, 10 AM – 3 PM.  Stop in anytime during the day for shark crafts, trivia, and activities.  We will show a shark documentary at 1 PM, complete with snacks.  No registration required.

Teen Programs (ages 11 and up)

Twilight Program, Tuesday, June 29, 7-8 PM.  Celebrate the theater release of Eclipse with trivia, crafts, and activities. No registration required.

Decorate a T-Shirt, Tuesday, July 20, 7:00 PM.  Jazz  up a t-shirt with paints, beads, buttons, and more!  You bring the shirt, we’ll provide the craft supplies.  No registration required.

Ongoing – Blog Challenge! Teens: got plans for the summer? Tell the world! We will meet on Tuesday July 6 at 7:00 PM to brainstorm ideas for a “to-do” list.  Each participant will then start a blog to keep us up to date on their progress.  Participants will be eligible to win an Oakdale Mall gift certificate.

Family Programs

The Spoon Man, Wednesday, July 28, 4:00 PM.  Watch as Jim Cruise plays music using household spoons, learn simple spoon-playing techniques, and join the band!  No registration required.

Professor Klutzo’s H20 Variety Show, Wednesday, August 18 1:00 PM. All ages.  Professor Klutzo and his zany friends will close out our summer programming with puppets, jokes, music, and more!  No registration required.

Movie Afternoons

We will be hosting two family movie afternoons. We’ll provide snacks.  No registration required.
