Records (aka “Vinyls”)
The first vinyl records, produced in 1930 by RCA, were an unsuccessful business venture. However, after World War II, the technology had improved enough that good quality sound recordings could be made on a plastic disk and played by a needle on a moveable arm. Most records contained musical performances, but soon anything that could be recorded could also be obtained in record format. “Vinyls” have recently made a comeback; many people claim the sound quality is still better than that of CDs or digital files.
