The first pre-recorded compact Audio Cassette tape was introduced in Europe in 1963, and arrived in the United States in 1964.   Although recorded tape had been available since 1935, the tape reels were large and had to be hand-threaded through the player.

CDs and MP3 files have replaced the cassette tape in the United States, but cassettes are still being produced in other parts of the world.
