Happy Un-Valentine’s Day!

Teens! Tired of pinky, sappy Valentine’s hearts, candy and cards? Want to do something different for February 14th this year? Join us for an Un-Valentine’s Day Program on Saturday, February 11th at 1 p.m.

We will:

Decorate “broken heart” cookies
Play the “Break My Heart” balloon game
Pelt Cupid with beanbags
Provide a list of positive alternate Valentine’s Day activities

And more!

The program is geared for teens ages 12 and older. Participants are asked to avoid wearing pink, red, or anything with hearts on it. There is no fee, but registration is required so we have enough supplies. Call the library at 797-4816 or see the Youth Services Librarian for more information or to register.

Friends of the Library Book Sale 1/21/12

The Friends of Your Home Public Library in Johnson City will hold a Book Sale on Saturday, January 21 from 9 AM to 2PM. Most items sell for 25 cents each.

A Bag Sale will begin at Noon: buy a paper bag for $2 and fill it up!

All About E-Books!

YHPL, along with neighboring libraries, began offering free access to e-books last January. The service has proven to be very popular. And now, the system works with the Kindle!

To get started you’ll need your library card and PIN. If you don’t know your PIN, contact the library.

Some devices allow for direct downloading (no PC required). For a full list of compatible devices, check out the Device Resource Center.

Quick start guides are available for e-books and for Kindle e-books.

The My Help button leads to an interactive troubleshooting guide.

Christmas in Camelot

YHPL presents Christmas in Camelot – based on the Magic Tree House Book by Mary Pope Osborn.

Saturday, December 31 at 1:00 PM – designed for ages 6 to 9.

Join us as we read from the book, follow the clues to a stash of treasure, and make a craft. There is no fee, but space is limited and registration is required. Contact the library at (607) 797-4816 to register. Please register by Friday, December 30th.

Winter Storytimes!

Join us for two Winter Storytimes:

Tuesday, December 27 @6:30 PM – we’ll feature books and activities on ice and snow and all things cold.

Thursday, December 29 @ 10 AM – enter the wonderful world of penguins.

Storytimes will feature books, crafts, rhymes, and activities suitable for children aged 3-5. Caregivers should plan to stay for the fun. Both programs are free and no registration is needed. Contact the Children’s Librarian for more information at (607) 797-4816.
