Storytimes will feature books, crafts, rhymes, and activities suitable for children aged 3-5.  Caregivers should plan to stay for the fun. Both programs are free and no registration is needed.  Contact the Children’s Librarian for more information at (607) 797-4816.

Most of our programs this summer will be based on the theme of One World, Many Stories.  Join us in celebrating cultures, crafts and entertainment from other countries, and even from outer space!

Preschool Storytimes: Mondays, 6:30 p.m., July 11 – August 15.  Ages 3 – 5.  Enjoy picture books, stretches, rhymes, games, crafts and more!

Travel Club: Thursdays, 1 p.m., July 7 – August 11.  Ages 6 – 10.  Go around the world without leaving Johnson City.  We will visit a new continent each week.  Each program will feature a craft, a game or other activity, and a short book.  Learn to use chopsticks, take a whack at a piñata, search for African wildlife on safari, and more!  Registration required.

Space Day: Wednesday, July 27, 1 p.m.  Ages 6 and up.  Earth is a world, but so are all the other planets and solar systems out there!  Join us for space-related games, crafts, and stories.  Registration required.

Mask Workshop. Tuesday, July 19^th, 7 p.m. (Teens) Masks have been made and used in many cultures around the world.  We will have mask blanks of papier-mâché or plaster available for decorating in the mosaic tile style of South America, or with paint in your own style!  All materials provided.  Registration required.

Celebrate Australia! 7 p.m., all ages.  On Wednesday, August 3^rd, experience a slice of Australia as we host Didgeridoo Down Under, a group that educates and entertains using a unique set of musical instruments.

Summer Reading Club: Ages 3 – 10.  Read during the summer, keep track of your time, and earn prizes.  Final day to turn in reading logs: Friday, August 19^th.

Teen Reading Program: Ages 10 – 15.  Read during the summer, keep track of your time, and enter for prize drawings.  Drawings held July 22^nd and August 19^th.

The fifth book in Jeff Kinney’s hit series “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” has just been released, and we’ll be celebrating during Thanksgiving break.  Kids age 7 and older are invited to our “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Library Program” on Friday, November 26th at 1 p.m.

Make your own Diary (or Journal), avoid the dreaded Cheese Touch, answer Team Trivia questions, find your Wimpy Kid character match, and more.  We will give away two copies of the new book The Ugly Truth, hats, and other prizes.
