Book Discussion Program – Molokai – 9/16/10

On Thursday, September 16, YHPL will host a discussion of Molokai, by Alan Brennert at 6:30 PM. The discussion will take place in the library basement.

Molokai is the story of a young Hawaiian girl who contracts leprosy and is deported to the leper colony on the island of Molokai. Despite the macabre subject matter, the book has been praised for its deft handling of its protagonist’s struggle against the limitations of her disease.

On Thursday, August 12, YHPL will host a discussion of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, by Stieg Larsson at 6:30 PM.
Larsson’s book is an international bestseller– a spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue.

Calling all teen Twilight fans!

The Your Home Public Library and the Broome County Public library will co-host a Twilight: Eclipse program for teens ages 11 – 18 on Tuesday, June 29^th at 7 p.m. at the Your Home Public Library, 107 Main Street, Johnson City.

The program will include a trivia quiz, scavenger hunt, door prizes, and t-shirt decorating (participants must provide the shirt, we will provide craft supplies) . Admission is free. Registration requested. For more information, call the YHPL at 797-4816, or BCPL at 778-6456.

Preschool Storytimes resume

The summer session of Preschool Storytimes will be held at the Your Home Public Library on Monday evenings at 6:30, beginning June 28^th and running through August 9^th. (No storytime on Monday, July 5^th, due to the Fourth of July weekend.) The programs are for children ages 3 – 5 and their caregivers. Activities will include books, fingerplays, rhymes, games, crafts, and more. No registration is required. Call the library at 797-4816 for more information.

Book Discussion – A Thousand Acres – 6/17/2010

On Thursday, June 17 at 6:30 PM, YHPL will host a book discussion of A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley.
The book is a re-telling of Shakespeare’s King Lear set in modern Iowa. Join us for a friendly discussion of this winner of the Pulitzer Prize.

Monday, April 12- 6:30 PM – Pre-School Storytime – Bring the little ones for stories, crafts, and more.

Thursday, April 15 – 6:30 PM – Book Discussion - Alice I Have Been – Join us to discuss the fascinating book by Melanie Benjamin.

Saturday, April 17 – 1:00 PM – Movie – Miss Potter – The story of the author of the Tale of Peter Rabbit and her struggle for love, happiness, and success. More about the movie.
