* Twilight Zone Twilight Zone

Time: 2:00 pm

October 3, 2014 marks the 55th anniversary of the first episode of The Twilight Zone. In honor of the anniversary, on Friday, October 3rd at 2:00 PM, Your Home Public Library will be showing three classic episodes of the pioneering science fiction series: “Where is Everybody?” (October 3, 1959), “Time Enough at Last” (November 20, 1959) and “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street” (March 4, 1960). Free popcorn and soda will be provided. Enter the fifth dimension with us…if you dare!

On Saturdays from Sept. 27th through Oct. 25th, Your Home Public Library is offering crochet classes. The classes will run from 9:30 AM to Noon. You must register in-person at the front desk. * Friends MeetingFriends Meeting

Time: 10:00 am

On Saturday, October 4th at 10:00 AM, the Friends of Your Home Public Library will be having a meeting. The Friends are a dedicated group of volunteers that donate their time and energy to supporting the library and its mission. Recent Friends activities have included collecting donations, raffles, book sales and maintenance of the library’s landscape. To add your name to the contact list, call the library at 797-4816 or e-mail us at jc.lib@4cls.org. You do not have to be a JC or Town of Union resident to join the Friends.

Time: 1:00 pm

If you have ever wanted to learn the basics of drawing in a relaxed environment with professional guidance, then this class is for you! Join us on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, September 30th through November 4th, where professional artist and instructor Richard Henry will cover topics such as line action, basic geometric shapes and shading techniques. There is a limit of 10 students, and a one-time fee to cover supplies. To sign up, stop by the circulation desk at Your Home Public Library or call 797-4816 for more information.

* Book DiscussionBook Discussion

Time: 6:30 pm

Join us on Tuesday, October 14th at 6:30 PM to discuss The Martian by Andy Weir. The book tells the story of astronaut Mark Watney. Six days ago, Mark was one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, after being accidentally stranded by his crew, he’s sure he’ll die there. Tom Shippey of the Wall Street Journal calls The Martian “brilliant,” and a “celebration of human ingenuity.” Book discussions are held in the basement meeting room and everyone is welcome!

Your Home Public Library recently underwent a full scale investigation by the Binghamton Paranormal Investigation Research Society (BPIRS). Join us on Wednesday, October 15th at 7:00 PM to hear the BPIRS report on the library and other places in the area. This program is FREE and welcome to all who dare attend.

Join us on Thursday, October 16th at 7:00 PM as Abigail Stevens of Ravenwood Gardens presents: Herbals from the Cauldron. Abigail is going to give a brief and bewitching history about herbalism and recipes for Halloween. This event is FREE and not to be missed. We’re dying to see you there!

Join us on Monday, October 20th at 6:00 PM for a demonstration of the Chinese art of Tai Chi, presented by Sherburne Library’s Nancy Simerl. This presentation will be held in the upstairs dining room at Your Home Public Library in Johnson City and is FREE and open to the public. Time: 6:30 pm

Celebrate Halloween week with a Monster Mash on Monday, October 27th at 6:30 PM. Children ages 6 - 10 are invited to go Monster Bowling, make monster crafts, feed our Library Monster, and enjoy monstrous refreshments. Halloween costumes are encouraged, but not required. * Movie NightMovie Night

Time: 7:00 pm

We will be hosting a Family Movie Night on Thursday, October 30th at 7:00 PM. Join us for two short features: "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," and "Toy Story of Terror," the new Pixar short. All ages are welcome and there is no fee for the event. Refreshments will be served.
