* Oil PaintingOil Painting

Time: 1:00 pm

On Mondays from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, November 3rd through December 1st, Your Home Public Library in Johnson City is offering oil painting classes with professional artist Glenda Blake. This class is open to people of all skill levels. There is a limit of 10 students per class. A one-time fee is required to cover supplies. Please bring a portable floor easel (available from the instructor if you don’t own one) and a work apron or older clothing to paint in. If you’ve always wanted to paint in oils, now is the time!

The staff of Your Home Public Library is always striving for ways to maintain and improve our level of service to all patrons, as well as keeping ourselves educated about the latest library policies and technologies. In that spirit of professional evolution, the library will be CLOSED on Friday, December 5th for a Staff Development Day. We will reopen on Saturday, the 6th from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On Saturday, December 6th at 10:00 AM, the Friends of Your Home Public Library are having a meeting. The Friends are a dedicated group of volunteers that donate their time and energy to supporting the library and its mission. To add your name to the contact list, call the library at 797-4816 or e-mail us at jc.lib@4cls.org. You do not have to be a JC or Town of Union resident to join the Friends.

Let your voice be heard! On Monday, December 8th at 5:30 PM the Board of Trustees of Your Home Public Library in Johnson City is having a Board Meeting. Join us on Tuesday, December 9th at 6:30 PM to discuss 2030: The Real Story of What Happens to America by Albert Brooks. It’s been fifteen years since cancer was cured. Sounds like a good thing, but is it, really? The population is aging rapidly, and resentment simmers against baby boomers who are sucking dry resources into their eighties and beyond. On June 12th, 2030, a massive earthquake devastates L.A., and the bankrupt government is unable to respond, leaving a cast of refugees and billionaires, presidents and revolutionaries all struggling to find their way to a better future.

Join us on Tuesday, December 16th at 6:00 PM for a showing of the live action classic The Grinch. Watch as Golden Globe winner Jim Carrey skillfully brings to life that famous Dr. Seuss character whose brain is full of spiders and has garlic in his soul. This film is rated PG. Refreshments will be served.

Time: 7:00 pm

Have the holiday blues? Missing that bright, warm summer sun? We have just the cure for you at our monthly Herb Class on Thursday, December 18th at 7:00 PM. Instructor Abigail Stevens will give tips on how to take the herbal approach for seasonal depression. There is a free home steam pack for everyone who attends! * Family Movie Family Movie

Time: 1:00 pm

Join us for a showing of Ernest and Celestine, the animated film about an unlikely friendship between a mouse and a bear. Bring the entire family on Saturday, December 27th at 1:00 PM. This event is free and open to everyone. Refreshments will be served. Running time is 80 minutes. The movie is rated PG.

* Craft DayCraft Day

Time: 1:00 pm

What better way to spend a Winter Break afternoon than to make some winter crafts? On Monday, December 29th at 1:00 PM we will create a simple snowman wreath, a warm fleece scarf, and a snow measuring stick. This workshop is open to anyone age 6 and older. There is no fee, but space is limited. Please register on or before Saturday, December 27th.

* Origami YodaOrigami Yoda

Time: 1:00 pm

Come to the lighter side of the Force with our Origami Yoda program on Wednesday, December 31st at 1:00 PM. Fold your own Origami Yoda and Fortune Wookiee, create lightsaber napkins, find the origami characters hidden around the library, and start your own holocron journal. Refreshments will be served. This free program is open to anyone age 6 to 10. Registration is required. Contact the library on or before Monday, December 29th to register.
