Sit back and relax in our air-conditioned dining room while you enjoy one of these 6 hit movies about space and space exploration: 2001: A Space Odyssey- July 21 at 5:30pm, Apollo 13- July 22 at 5:30pm, Mission to Mars- July 25 at 2:00pm, Solaris- July 29 at 6:00pm, Wall-E- July 31 at 2:00pm and the Academy Award winning Gravity starring Sandra Bullock- August 1 at 2:00pm. Free popcorn and soda will be provided. It’s summer fun that is going to be out of this world!

Time: 1:00 pm

Learn the basics of oil painting in a fun and casual setting with professional artist Glenda Blake. Classes will be held Monday afternoons from 1 – 4, July 28 through August 25. There is a limit of 10 students per class. A one-time fee is required to cover supplies. Please bring a work apron and/or wear older clothing to paint in. On Tuesdays, July 8th through August 12th at 10:00 AM, we are offering our popular storytime outside in the summer sun! Children 3 ½ to 5 and caregivers are invited to join us at CFJ Park for programs that will include books, rhymes, crafts and more. No registration is required. Attend as many as you like. We look forward to seeing you.

* Porch ConcertPorch Concert

Time: 6:00 pm

Johnson City Neighborhood Project (JCNP) in conjunction with Your Home Public Library will hold a library porch concert on Tuesday, August 5th from 6-8 PM featuring Distant Thunder and special guest performer Joe Stento. JCNP is encouraging all villagers to step outside that night in an effort to show solidarity in matters of public safety, neighborly relations, and healthy living overall. Even if they just sit out on their porches or introduce themselves to a neighbor. Similar to a "take back the night" effort where we show that the night belongs to us: The law abiding citizens of this village. This concert is FREE and everyone is welcome!

* Minerals Rock!Minerals Rock!

Time: 1:00 pm

On Wednesday, August 6th at 1:00 PM, experts from the Kopernik Observatory and Science Center will come to present a program on rocks and minerals. Learn about seismic activity and examine a selection of rocks, fossils, and minerals from the KOSC collection! This program is FREE and open to the public.

Kids and Teens ages 11 and up may join us for our Young Adult Book Discussion series at 7 PM in July in August. We will be having a fun and relaxed talk about the following bestselling YA books: Steelheart, by Brandon Sanderson on Monday, July 14, Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card on Monday, July 28 and Divergent, by Victoria Roth on Monday, August 11. Attend as many or as few as you like. No registration is required and adults are welcome to join us!

Join us on Tuesday, August 12th at 6:30 PM to discuss Case Histories by Kate Atkinson. Case Histories tells the story of three tragic and seemingly unrelated criminal cases. On Monday, August 18th at 6:30 PM, Your Home Public Library in Johnson City will host a presentation on composting and its many benefits. Composting is good for the environment and good for your garden. Cornell Cooperative Extension composting expert Kevin Mathers will be here to show you how to get started. This event will be informative, fun and FREE. Everyone is welcome!

Is the hot August weather leaving you parched? Come cool off at our monthly Herb Class on Thursday, August 21st at 7:00 PM. Abigail Stevens will give a refreshing presentation on herbs for teas, infused waters and summer drinks. You can sample some of her hand-blended teas, and leave with a list of recipes for fun summer drinks! This program is FREE and open to the public. Imagine if the Victorian era had never ended— what would our lives be like now? Find out at Your Home Public Library’s Steampunk Party on Monday, August 25th at 7:00 PM. Come in costume and enjoy crafts, refreshments, and hands-on science experiments. We’ll be giving out prizes for Best Youth Costume and Best Adult Costume. Don't have a costume? Drop into the library at 6:30, and create a Steampunk corsage, hat, or mask. This will be the event of the summer…don’t miss it!

* Entrepreneur Entrepreneur

Time: 5:00 pm

Join us on Wednesday, August 27th at 5:00 PM for a Young Entrepreneur Workshop featuring Davone Nealy. Mr Nealy is a self-proclaimed “Mogul in the Making” and Creative Consultant with Massive Global Media. Nealy has been very active locally: producing the recent Hip Hop Summit in Binghamton and organizing the “Stop the Non-Sense” movement in response to the Scott Wright Jr. shooting. He will be joined by a group of young, successful and powerful urban leaders. The group has the goal of providing the underprivileged youth of Johnson City with a taste of what they need to succeed — today, and in the future. This workshop is open to ages 12-21. You are welcome to bring your children. Please register by calling 797-4816 or coming to the library. Space is limited.
