* Friends MeetingFriends Meeting

Time: 10:00 am

On Saturday, November 1st at 10:00 AM, the Friends of Your Home Public Library will be having a meeting. The Friends are a dedicated group of volunteers that donate their time and energy to supporting the library and its mission. Recent Friends activities have included collecting donations, raffles, book sales and maintenance of the library’s landscape. To add your name to the contact list, call the library at 797-4816 or e-mail us at jc.lib@4cls.org. You do not have to be a JC or Town of Union resident to join the Friends.

* Funding MeetingFunding Meeting

Time: 11:00 am

Attend an Information Meeting about Library funding and the November 4th vote at one of the following times: Wednesday, October 22nd at 6:30 PM, or Saturday, November 1st at 11:00 AM. Review the ballot proposition, including the tax impact chart, look at where library funding comes from, and ask questions. * Oil PaintingOil Painting

Time: 1:00 pm

On Mondays from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, November 3rd through December 1st, Your Home Public Library in Johnson City is offering oil painting classes with professional artist Glenda Blake. This class is open to people of all skill levels. There is a limit of 10 students per class. A one-time fee is required to cover supplies. Please bring a portable floor easel (available from the instructor if you don’t own one) and a work apron or older clothing to paint in. If you’ve always wanted to paint in oils, now is the time!

* StorytimeStorytime

Time: 10:00 am

Toddler storytimes for children ages 2 - 3 will be offered on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 AM from October 14th through November 18th. The 20-minute sessions will include books, flannelboard stories, stretches, rhymes, and simple crafts. Caregivers should plan to stay with their child. There is no registration, and all programs are free. For more information, contact Youth Services Librarian Maryse Quinn at 797-4816.

* Drawing ClassDrawing Class

Time: 1:00 pm

If you have ever wanted to learn the basics of drawing in a relaxed environment with professional guidance, then this class is for you! Join us on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, September 30th through November 4th, where professional artist and instructor Richard Henry will cover topics such as line action, basic geometric shapes and shading techniques. There is a limit of 10 students, and a one-time fee to cover supplies. To sign up, stop by the circulation desk at Your Home Public Library or call 797-4816 for more information.

* Book DiscussionBook Discussion

Time: 6:30 pm

Join us at Your Home Public Library in Johnson City on Tuesday, November 4th at 6:30 PM to discuss The Dog Stars by Peter Heller. The book tells the story of Hig, a pilot who survived a flu that killed everyone he knows. Hig lives with his dog in the hangar of a small abandoned airport, his only neighbor a gun-toting misanthrope. But when a random transmission somehow beams through his radio, the voice ignites a hope deep inside him that a better life exists beyond the airport. Book discussions are FREE and open to the public.

Let your voice be heard! On Monday, November 10th at 5:30 PM the Board of Trustees of Your Home Public Library in Johnson City is having a Board Meeting. Board Meetings are open to the public and we encourage anyone to attend. Have a specific issue you’d like to discuss? Contact the Library Director at 797-4816 to be placed on the agenda.

* Book SaleBook Sale

Time: 9:00 am

Get an early start on your holiday shopping at our monthly book sale on Saturday, November 15th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. We have a wide variety of inventory including rare books, DVDs, CDs and more, all priced from .25 to .50! We are so thankful for your continued support, and hope to see you there.

* Paper QuillingPaper Quilling

Time: 1:00 pm

On Saturday, November 15th, learn the art of quilling. Strips of paper are rolled around a special tool (or even a pencil!) to create shapes that can then be glued together to create flowers, snowflakes, and other forms. The program will run from 1:00 to 2:30 PM, and is open to anyone ages 6 and older. Registration is required, but the program is free. We will provide all supplies. Call the library at 797- 4816 for more information or to register.

* Movie NightMovie Night

Join us on Tuesday, November 18th at 6:00 PM for a FREE showing of The Blind Side. Based on the true story of Michael Oher, The Blind Side is about a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All American football player and first-round draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family. Refreshments will be provided by the library.

Time: 7:00 pm

Let's give thanks! Join us at our monthly Herb Class on Thursday, November 20th at 7:00 PM, and learn the benefits of common herbs used during our day of celebration. Instructor Abigail Stevens will also share a recipe for homemade cranberry sauce. We hope to see you there.
