Your Home Public Library will close at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, December 31st for New Years Eve, and will be closed Thursday, January 1st for New Year’s Day. Our normal hours will resume on Friday and Saturday, the 2nd and 3rd, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On behalf of the entire staff, we wish you peace and prosperity in 2015!

Time: 10:00 am

On Saturday, January 3rd at 10:00 AM, the Friends of Your Home Public Library are having a meeting. The Friends are a dedicated group of volunteers that donate their time and energy to supporting the library and its mission. To add your name to the contact list, call the library at 797-4816 or e-mail us at jc.lib@4cls.org. You do not have to be a JC or Town of Union resident to join the Friends.

Let your voice be heard! On Monday, January 12th at 5:30 PM the Board of Trustees of Your Home Public Library in Johnson City is having a Board Meeting. Board Meetings are open to the public and we encourage anyone to attend. Have a specific issue you’d like to discuss? Contact the Library Director at 797-4816 to be placed on the agenda.

* Book DiscussionBook Discussion

Time: 6:30 pm

Join us on Tuesday, January 13th at 6:30 PM to discuss The English Major by Jim Harrison. The book tells the story of Cliff, a sixty-something man who sets out on a road trip across America after being robbed of his farm by his real estate shark of an ex-wife. Haven’t read The English Major? Stop by the circulation desk to pick up a copy! Book discussions will be held in the basement meeting room.

* Herb ClassHerb Class

Time: 7:00 pm

Join us on Thursday, January 15th at 7:00 PM for our monthly Herb Class to learn how to make Fire Cider, a tonic that has been used for generations for everything from aiding digestion to staving off the flu. Herbalist Abigail Stevens will be putting a new spin on her classic recipe. This is a class you don’t want to miss! * Book SaleBook Sale

Time: 9:00 am

Ring in the New Year with vintage, used books at low prices. The Friends of Your Home Public Library will hold a Book Sale on Saturday, January 17th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Adult hardcover books will sell for .50, and paperback and children’s books will sell for just .25! Make a resolution to read for 2015. We hope to see you there.

* Red CrossRed Cross

Time: 6:00 pm

Do you have the knowledge and tools to safeguard yourself and your family when disaster strikes? Join us Monday at 6:00 PM on January 19th, where a representative from the American Red Cross will present a session of Governor Cuomo's Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program. Learn how to prepare for natural and man-made disasters, and how to respond to and recover from them. This program is free and open to the public.

* Movie NightMovie Night

Time: 6:00 pm

On Tuesday, January 20th at 6:00 PM, there will be a FREE showing of Monuments Men at Your Home Public Library in Johnson City. The film, starring George Clooney and Matt Damon, is set during World War II when the Nazis were stealing countless pieces of priceless art and hiding them away. A team of art scholars, architects and other experts form a unit to retrieve the stolen masterpieces. After the team learns of the "Nero Decree," which orders destruction of the artworks if the Third Reich falls, they must risk their lives in a race against time to protect some of mankind's greatest achievements. The move is rated PG-13. Soda and popcorn will be served.

Learn to speak Spanish at Your Home Public Library with Danielle Falcón! Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, January 21st through February 25th. There is a .00 supply fee for this class, and a limit of 12 students. Remember to bring a pen and a notebook! * Little ReadLittle Read

Time: 1:00 pm

The Little Read book for 2015 is "Wind in the Willows," and we’re celebrating with a Saturday afternoon of games and crafts. On January 24th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, stop in and join the fun. We will have a life-sized board game set up in the Children’s Room; roll the dice and see where it takes you and the other players. There will also be craft tables with bookmarks, mobiles, and other things to make. The program is free and no registration is required. Activities are open to all ages. Contact the Children’s Librarian for more information.
